Connect with the Canal Run on your favorite social network
As the Portage Health Canal Run heads into its 37th year we’re continuously looking for ways to move forward and connect with the more than 500 racers that come from all over the Midwest to participate each year.
This year, that includes an expansion of our social media outlets. The Canal Run can now be found on Twitter, Facebook and Foursquare, three of the most popular social media outlets on the World Wide Web. We’d love to have you join us on all three networks, and take us through your training process.
Tweet at us (@CanalRun) anytime you complete a run or purchase some new running gear in preparation for the July 21 event. Also, follow the feed for updates on our course, race rules, other events and anything else Canal Run related.
Use Foursquare to check into your local running spot, or find some great training areas in the Keweenaw by checking out our training list, which are ever evolving. Use Facebook or Twitter to let us know where you train and we can add that to our list.
Also make sure to Facebook“Like” us on Facebook, where nearly 100 people are already following our updates. This is THE place for the latest information from the Canal Run as we finalize all of the details for the 2012 event.
Finally, as you’ll notice on our website, we’ve added a news page, where you can find in-depth information on all kinds of things Canal Run related. Check back often (follow our social networks if you want some reminders) to see the latest information about our race.

Date set and registration is open for 37th annual Canal Run
Race day is set and registration is open for the 37th annual Portage Health Canal Run. The run is set for July 21 with a start at McLain’s State Park and finish in downtown Hancock in front of Citizen’s Bank.
Registration is open at HancockCanalRun.com through Active.com, which has been the Canal Run’s on-line registration partner for a number of years.
“Active.com is an easy-to-use system for registering,” said Angela Luskin, race director. “It works well for participants and the race committee, and has been around for many years providing a dependable service.”
Registration can also be done by printing a PDF found on the website and mailing it in.
The price for all races is once again $25 if done by June 14, and $35.00 after June 14. All participants will receive a bamboo Canal Run t-shirt, Finlandia University clothing bag, a free shuttle to the starting location before the race, on-site medical attention, including five aid stations, and snacks at the finish line.
Upper Peninsula Road Runner Club members receive $2 off their fee, and team discounts are available.
